Although we always offer a tailored service for each individual project, below is an overview of what we do. Please get in touch with your specific needs.

Short-term letting
Living and working in Edinburgh and acting as an occasional host for short-term visitor accommodation, Angus is well aware of the impact of visitor accommodation on the city and ongoing attempts to manage this impact equitably. Contour Planning is following developments in the regulation of this sector closely and is perfectly positioned to respond quickly on behalf of clients as and when any further regulation is confirmed. Please get in touch to discuss how Contour Planning can act as your one-stop shop to address planning and licensing.

Urban
Angus has managed projects large and small in towns and cities across Scotland. He is a safe pair of hands to deal with whatever your project requirements might be from small-scale house extensions to large scale regeneration areas, from village enhancements to city centre redevelopment, and from medieval townscapes to contemporary urban design.
Angus’ interest in tourism-based projects makes this a particular speciality. His Local Authority experience of managing change in the urban environment equips him with all the necessary tools to advise and manage change of use and repurposing projects.

Rural
Having worked for many years for a rural consultancy, Angus has extensive experience of all manner of rural planning projects including: the removal of section 50 and section 75 legal agreements; agricultural and sporting related developments; a wide spectrum of farm diversification projects; self-build housing; steading conversions; renewable energy; and tourism developments and visitor accommodation. Angus understands that rural Scotland is a working environment as well as something that’s nice to look at. His background in Local Authority planning means he knows the most effective ways to communicate this to Planning Officers to try and ensure that outcomes for Scotland’s countryside reflect both commercial and landscape objectives.

Community
Contour Planning can assist with community consultation as a stand-alone project. Angus understands how consultation is viewed from both the Local Authority and developer perspectives and is fully conversant with all statutory consultation requirements for larger projects. He is an approachable and engaging practitioner that can really help to articulate a project to the public, treating them as valued stakeholders and bridging the gap between local people and developers. He is passionate about consultation and recently completed the Facilitation Skills Training Programme run by the Kinharvie Institute. Angus is also a PAS (formerly Planning Aid Scotland) volunteer.

Tourism
Angus has extensive experience of managing all manner of tourism-focused planning projects on a variety of scales. He also has excellent contacts among a range of Scottish tourism consultancies whose input to planning applications can greatly enhance submissions – offering detailed industry specific data to help address planning policies. The current trend for more immersive and experiential forms of tourism will also have planning implications in some instances. Do get in touch if you want to discuss what these could be for your business, and to understand how Contour Planning could help address them most efficiently.
